Caryn and Jim Josephson will be traveling to Tanzania in September to make an ambassador visit to our companion congregations of Bomalang’ombe and Vikongwa.

Please join us on Sunday, August 20th after the 2nd service for an Ice Cream Social!  There will be a chance to eat yummy ice cream, sign cards for our sponsored students, and we will take a freewill donation to help purchase gifts for our companions.  We have limited space and weight allowances on this visit, so unlike past trips we aren’t able to collect items to bring with – instead, we will make purchases in Iringa to help support the local economy.  Some of the gifts we are hoping to purchase over in Tanzania include:

Pikipiki
  • A ‘pikipiki’ (Motorbike) for the use of the pastor at Vikongwa.  The cost, which includes the motorbike, licenses and helmets, is around $1300.  This gift would be similar to transportation gifts that we provided to Bomalang’ombe in the early years of our companionship.
  • Rice for Huruma Centre Children’s Home.  A 100kg bag of rice is approximately $100.
  • Soccer balls (15) for the preaching points and schools.  A soccer ball costs around $15 in Iringa and can be used as an evangelism tool!
  • Theology and religious education books for the pastors, evangelists and children’s education teams.  Soma Biblia, a Lutheran mission with Norwegian and Danish roots, offers a variety of religious education materials in Swahili.  Prices range from $1 for devotionals to $40 for a bible commentary.
  • Other needs to be discovered!  On past trips we’ve used extra gift funds to support projects such as the Widows’ Pig and Goat project, the Women’s Batik group or additional cash gifts to the schools or Huruma Children’s home.

If you are unable to attend but would like to make a donation for gifts, you can make a donation online by CLICKING HERE or write ‘TZ Gifts’ on your check memo or envelope.

Asante sana!  (Thank you very much!)
