October 25-November 22 Worship Series
Open Doors: Invitation to Wholeness is our theme until Advent. An open door is an invitation and in our readings during the next five weeks we explore both the reality of God’s invitation and the possibility of wholeness available to us by passing through the Open Door of God’s grace.
October 25: 2 Samuel 11:1-5, 26-27; 12:1-9
David had it all, but he wanted more. Sin left only one possibility for wholeness: forgiveness. Honesty about sin is an essential step toward wholeness as God’s reformation people. God invites us to be honest with ourselves and to receive God’s gracious forgiveness.
November 1: 1 Kings 3:4-9, 16-28
As we acknowledge a great cloud of witnesses who have been essential to the gift of faith among us, we hear the story of Solomon’s wisdom. Wisdom is a gift, among others, that has been shared with us through the people we have been blessed to know. We are invited to find wholeness in the wisdom shared by the community of faith.
November 8: 2 Kings 5:1-15a
Naaman, a leader of Aram, discovered that healing could be found with a message from a slave girl, reaching out to an enemy, and the humility of receiving healing from the ordinary. We are invited to find wholeness in humility, in the common, and in the insights of ordinary people.
November 15: Micah 5:2-5a; 6:6-8
Micah proclaimed justice and peace to a troubled world. We are invited to be people of justice and peace to bring healing and wholeness to a broken world.
November 22: Isaiah 36:1-3, 13-20; 37:1-7; 2:1-4
Isaiah’s vision sees instruments of war and domination transformed into gifts of prosperity and peace. We are invited to God’s grace, which transforms our attempts to dominate into an opportunity for peace and wholeness to the world.
