Seniors Supporting Seniors

Seniors Supporting Seniors, a group for older adults (and anyone who considers themselves a senior!), meets on the 2nd Thursday of each month, year round, from 1:00 – 2:30pm for conversations on a variety of topics related to growing older.

Upcoming Supporting Senior dates:

May 8 – The Gifts of Spring
Spring has finally sprung in earnest and signs of new life are all around! Join us for a discussion about what this new season might mean for our lives. We’ll use the following questions as prompts for reflection and conversation:

What transitions occurred for you over the winter and into the early weeks of spring?
What seeds might you plant in your garden and in your own life?
Are there already things that are sprouting to life in your world this spring?
If you’re experiencing challenges or loss during this time, how might the gifts of this season help sustain you?

June 15 Brain Health
June is Alzheimer’s and Brain Health Awareness Month.  Worldwide, more than 55 million people are living with Alzheimer’s or another dementia, and two-thirds of Americans have at least one major potential risk factor. We’ll use the following questions as prompts for reflection and conversation:

  • What activities or habits have you found helpful for keeping your mind sharp as you’ve aged, and how do you stay motivated to continue them?
  • What are some common myths or misunderstandings you’ve heard about dementia, and how have they impacted how people talk about or deal with it?
  • How do you or your loved ones cope with memory changes, whether mild forgetfulness or more serious concerns? What support has been the most helpful? Where is more support needed?
  • How has the possibility or experience of dementia, whether your own or a loved one’s, changed the way you think about connection, identity, and aging?

July 10 – Freedom and Letting Go
As we celebrate Independence Day in July, it’s a natural time to reflect not only on our country’s freedom, but also on the freedoms we experience and seek in our own lives. With age often comes a deeper understanding of what it means to let go: of expectations, regrets, burdens, or things we can no longer control. In this season of life, many find freedom in forgiveness, in faith, and in trusting that God holds our past, present, and future. Together, we’ll explore what it means to be free—in body, heart, and spirit. Join us for good conversations and light refreshments.

  • When have you experienced a sense of real freedom in your life?
  • What is something you’ve learned to let go of over the years–how did it change you?
  • Are there areas in your life now where you’re still learning to release control or find peace
  • How does your faith help you embrace freedom and practice letting go?

August 14Summer Memories: Stories from Our Youth
The heat of Summer is upon us! Join us for a nostalgic and lighthearted discussion as we share memories of summers past. There may be a fun story or two about the high school mystery camping trip, too.

  • What was a typical summer life for you growing up? Did you spend it working, traveling, playing, or helping around the home?
  • Do you have a favorite summer memory that still brings you joy or makes you laugh?
  • What traditions or activities did your family have in the summer that you still cherish or try to pass on?
  • How has your experience of Summer changed as you’ve gotten older?
