The wonder of God’s creation
We’re back from a glorious couple of days visiting Ruaha National Park. When most people think “safari”, this is exactly what they expect! (Safari means “trip” in Swahili)
We stay at Mwagusi camp on the Ruaha River, which is seasonally dry. We arrive in time for lunch, then after a time for rest and tea, we head out on an afternoon game drive. The drive ends around 7, giving us a chance to get great sunset pictures. Dinner is served under the stars. On the second day we head out at 6:30 for a morning game drive, stopping along the way for breakfast in the bush. We get back in time for lunch and follow the same schedule as the day before. The final day there is an optional nature walk, followed by breakfast before we head home.
Our guide was Baldon, who Jim and Caryn have met on prior trips. The drives did not disappoint! In addition to elephants, giraffe, impala, zebra, kudos, cape buffalo, lions, monkeys, baboons and countless birds, we had some unique experiences. The first afternoon we saw a leopard, a giraffe carcass (3 days past a lion kill), and a lion feasting on a cape buffalo. The second day we saw another leopard (seeing 1 is unusual, let alone 2), and we returned to the carcasses. At the giraffe, 4 hyenas and a black backed jacket were having their dinner, and about 14 lions were working on the cape buffalo. Both gross and fascinating!
Please enjoy way too many safari pictures!
