Social Concerns Committee and Adult Education Committee will host a book discussion of Evicted: Poverty and Profit in the American City, during Adult Forum Sunday mornings May 5 and 12. Pastor Betsy reviews the book and reminds all to attend the discussions.
Pastor Betsy: Experiencing Poverty Up Close
Through a Poverty Simulation sponsored by Do Good Roseville, Pastor Betsy Hoium and others assumed assigned roles at the high school one Saturday. Pastor Betsy became a homeless 19-yr. old mother with a one year old son, navigating bus passes, food stamps, and other life scenarios. She tells of her experience seeing poverty up close.
May Adult Forums
For Adult Forum, the social concerns committee and adult education committee will be hosting a discussion of the book Evicted: Poverty and Profit in the American City by Matthew Desmond, on Sundays, May 5 and 12. The book tells the life stories of eight families in Milwaukee who live in poverty and strive to keep a roof over their heads, and the stories of their two landlords.
