Schools and Preaching Points
Today was a whirlwind! We started the day driving up to Bomalang’ombe Secondary School. Most of the students that Prince of Peace sponsors attend this school. We were greeted by the students singing and carrying flowers. Even the vehicle got decorated! The students treated us to songs and displays of acrobatics. Two of our sponsored students read a letter of thanks and we received multi colored Masaai style wraps. We presented the school with a soccer ball, volleyball and pump. Next was a visit to the headmaster’s office to sign the guest book accompanied by song. Following that we had breakfast and presented our gifts to our 5 students from Vikongwa. 3 want to be teacher’s, one wants to be a nurse and one wants to be a pastor.
Next stop was Mifugo Preaching point and on the way we got a chance to see more goats that are the result of the widows goat project. Mifugo has great singing and dancing and drumming!
Next to Mifugo is Ipeta Secondary School, which is a government school. The evangelist at Mifugo is a teacher there. We gave them a volleyball and pump which was a big hit!
After that it was back for lunch and rest time.
The afternoon excursion was visiting Muhu Preaching Point, which is the smallest and most remote. We were grateful for a great driver and 4 wheel drive, because it was 5km of heavily rutted roads going up and down the hillsides. A beautiful drive! We received an enthusiastic welcome and learned that 2 of our sponsored students are from Muhu. The singing and dancing were infectious!
Back at the pastor’s house we got to see the turkeys they are raising and interacted with the pastor’s adorable twin daughters.
Before dinner we got more information about the guest house purchase, including a tour of the lot and plans to add more rooms in the future. We also saw architectural drawings of a planned new church.
A lot of exciting plans! Tomorrow is worship and the chance to meet with several groups of parishioners.
