In today’s world, there is a hardening of many hearts. People’s access to health care, education, the feeding of the hungry and other basic human needs are being eroded. It feels like slowly we are being hardened to let people go. Sometimes, I hear the line from Dickens’ Christmas Carol “If they would rather die, they had better do it and decrease the surplus population.”
This is not who I am or who my community is. I am a child of hope taught to love God and love my neighbors as I love myself. Let today be a day of love and hope. A day when I work to make just one life a bit better. Give me strength to hold those I don’t know (or like) in my heart and pray that their needs are fulfilled before mine. Grant me courage to support those that need it by listening without judgment and praying with them. If I have the resource, let me use it to better others. In Your name. Thank you God.
