Yesterday, we listened to Jesus’ call to the disciples in Luke 5:1-11. So too, Jesus challenges us to leave behind the familiar and step boldly into God’s transformative work. When Peter follows Jesus, he leaves behind his livelihood to embrace a mission of justice, compassion, and inclusion. This same call reaches us today, urging us to respond in ways that reflect God’s love for the world.
Here are the four ways I suggested that we can respond to Jesus’ call to deeper waters:
- Speak Truth to Power: Like Jesus’ bold proclamation of God’s kingdom, we are called to challenge systems of injustice and advocate for those who are silenced.
- Build Inclusive Communities: The disciples formed a new kind of community—one that crossed social and cultural boundaries. We are invited to create spaces where everyone belongs.
- Practice Radical Generosity: Just as the fishermen left behind their catch, we are called to share our resources and time freely, trusting in God’s abundant provision.
- Center the Margins: Jesus’ ministry consistently uplifted those pushed to the edges of society. We are called to focus our energy on serving and empowering the marginalized.
By living into these practices, we participate in God’s story of transformation, stepping into deeper waters where faith and justice meet.
May you find yourself in God’s story today. -Pastor Peter
Let’s pray… God of justice and mercy, guide us to speak boldly, build inclusively, give generously, and uplift the marginalized. Lead us into deeper waters of faith. Amen.
