Yesterday, we wove together the story of Solomon’s temple, the celebration of Reformation Sunday, and the Confirmation ritual for three of our young members. Each element individually reflects God’s call to build communities that welcome, transform, and serve beyond themselves. Combined, these moments remind us that God’s presence cannot be confined—whether in a temple, a tradition, or a single moment of faith.

Here are three key takeaways to carry with you this week:

  1. Faith is About Building for Others: Solomon’s temple was not only for Israel but for all people who sought God. Like Solomon, we’re called to build spaces—spiritual and physical—where others can encounter God. Our faith grows when we look beyond ourselves and work toward a community grounded in love and hospitality.
  2. The Church is Always Reforming: On Reformation Sunday, we honor the legacy of Martin Luther, who called the church to continually align with God’s vision of grace. Just as Solomon knew that even the grandest temple could not contain God, Luther understood that no institution fully captures God’s mystery. Our own faith journeys require humility and openness to new ways of encountering God.
  3. Confirmation is a New Beginning: The young members affirming their baptism today are not finishing their faith journey—they’re beginning a new chapter. Their participation builds the future of the church. Like the temple and the Reformation, their faith is an essential part of God’s ongoing work in the world.

I hope these lessons might inspire us all to build lives that reflect God’s vision, trusting that each step in faith shapes a future grounded in grace and love.

May God’s peace find you today. -Pastor Peter

Let’s pray… God of new beginnings, guide us as we build lives of faith, embracing your ever-reforming vision. May our actions reflect your love and welcome for all. Amen.
