Because God just can’t help it.
Yesterday, we continued to reflect on the nature of God’s love. John’s powerful message reveals that love is not just an action but the essence of who God is. Understanding this holds the key to reshaping our entire approach to life and faith. When we grasp that God’s love for us is not conditional on our goodness but rooted in God’s own nature, it frees us from the burden of striving to earn that love.
Richard Rohr captures this beautifully when he says, “God does not love you because you are good; God loves you because God is good.” This truth is transformative. It reminds us that God’s love is constant, unwavering, and unearned. It’s a love that meets us in our imperfections and invites us to experience the fullness of grace.
In light of this, our response is to embody this same love toward others. We are called to love not because others deserve it, but because God’s love flows through us. This week, let’s live out this divine love by offering grace, kindness, and compassion to those around us, especially in situations where it might be challenging. Let our actions be a reflection of the God who is love, and may we find joy in knowing that as we love others, we are participating in the very nature of God.
May God’s peace find you today. -Pastor Peter
Let us pray… Love that is you, may we love as we are loved—freely, fully, and without condition. Amen.
