At the CPTF meeting on Monday, August 28, the Task Force reviewed this letter for the congregation.  Watch for it in the mail.

August 29, 2023

Dear Members of Prince of Peace:

On October 1 there will be an important congregational meeting.  Please mark this date on your calendar and plan to attend.  We will make a decision about the ongoing Tiny Home settlement at that time.  It is important for members to participate and be well informed to make the best decisions possible.

Here are the opportunities:

  • Read weekly Campus Planning Task Force (CPTF) Updates
  • Pick up written materials or check them online throughout September
  • Talk to a CPTF member available for conversation each Sunday
  • Submit questions on notecards to be part of the discussion
  • Attend community conversations at 9:40 on Sunday 09/17 and 09/24

The Campus Planning Task Force was established by the Congregation Council to work on issues regarding permitting of our Tiny Homes and an overall Master Plan for our facilities and property of almost 8 ½ acres.  Permitting requires the congregation to have a plan about the future of Tiny Homes on PoP property by October.  So, that will be the focus of the October 1 meeting.  The Task Force will continue work on other campus planning issues after the meeting and you are invited to participate.

A primary focus for the Task Force to this point has been the issue of housing – especially in continuity with the prior work of the Affordable Housing Team and the Tiny Home Settlement that we began on an interim basis.  The proposal before the congregation will be whether or not we continue with a minimally expanded ongoing Tiny Home settlement of a total of 3 homes (necessary to comply with MN State legislation which takes effect on January 1).  In addition, an Affordable Housing Apartment and/or a Habitat for Humanity development will continue to be studied.

An ongoing Tiny Home Settlement offers two sides of one coin.

  • A concern is that it is risky because of some unknowns.
  • The opportunity is to shape a new approach to inspire our congregation and others to provide a safe community and housing for people in need.

Please take advantage of the opportunities available:

  • To gather information
  • To be part of conversations, reactions, and discussions
  • To explore our options, and
  • To make decisions together

Thank you!

The Prince of Peace Campus Planning Task Force
