Psalm 121 (NIV)
I lift up my eyes to the mountains—
where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord,
the Maker of heaven and earth.
He will not let your foot slip—
he who watches over you will not slumber;
indeed, he who watches over Israel
will neither slumber nor sleep.
The Lord watches over you—
the Lord is your shade at your right hand;
the sun will not harm you by day,
nor the moon by night.
The Lord will keep you from all harm—
he will watch over your life;
the Lord will watch over your coming and going
both now and forevermore.
When planning for today’s worship was underway, the theme was built around the question of how we continue on, even in the face of an uncertain future. The words of Psalm 121 are a reassuring response for all of us who need reminding that God is still present, God isn’t going anywhere, and God will see us through.
I asked my daughter Della and her girlfriend Katie to do something with this psalm that we might incorporate into our video worship experience today. Perhaps you’ve been hearing about the video-based social media platform TikTok. Users contribute short-form videos featuring every possible subject matter under the sun and then share them with the world. I think the words of Psalm 121 are perfectly suited for this time and Della & Katie’s contribution to TikTok is exactly the kind of art the world needs to see right now.
May God’s peace find you this day, Pastor Peter
