Nellie Caroline Sponheim
April 10, 1931 – March 17, 2020
The congregation and family hosted a virtual memorial service celebrating the life and resurrection of Nell Sponheim on Saturday, July 11, 2020. In light of our continuing suspension of in-person gatherings, this service was conducted via video and teleconference on the Zoom software platform. Ruth Sorenson-Prokosch was the presiding pastor and a number of Nell’s family and friends participated. You are welcome to watch a recording of the service below.
A virtual memorial service is an unfamiliar experience for many of us. Nonetheless, this is an important step in the baptismal journeys that we all share. In our grieving and in our giving thanks for Nell’s life we also have the chance to hear a word of promise from God. This is a promise from which we draw our strength to continue living as God’s beloved. The words you will hear during this service are hopefully a familiar reminder of God’s presence in our lives.
Thanks to you Prince of Peace for archiving this memorial to a great Aunt! Brings tears to my eyes again (and I suppose again the next time!)
I’ve watched the service two “extra” times now and am filled with gratitude, joy and a measure of sadness of course. But to have so many friends and family gather in memory of this wonderful woman is uplifting, all things considered. I am grateful especially to Pastor Ruth who presided and preached so graciously and to Pastor Peter who managed the technological challenges so ably.
