I do not understand Revelations…it’s strange. Parts of its descriptions remind me of Avatar creatures or the bar scene from Star Wars or the Indiana Jones scene of creatures flowing from the opening of the Lost Ark. BUT what strikes me is the imagination Revelations kindles in my brain. It allows the reader (in my mind) to explore possibility in the vivid depictions of the writers.
Challenge and imagination makes me consider what PoP has charged our Campus Planning team to do. To be like the writers of Revelations. We have asked them to use both sides of their brains – the imaginative and the analytical.
They are called to create (like painters or sculptors) a vision of what God may be calling PoP to do. To put aside all pre-conceived ideas (some people come from either the older affordable housing team or the settled team) to create something that is God’s vision for PoP. To create without constraint.
Once possible options are known, PoP has asked them to shift to the analytical side of their brains. What fits both our mission and the space we have? What makes sense? Is there possibility for more than one choice? They will create a plan that fits the constraints of our community and . desire to live out God’s work. I can’t wait to see what they propose to the congregation!
What an enormous task. I applaud them. They will impact the congregation as much as the founders – with love of God to guide them. They will impact our identity. Whatever they decide will impact the park and the City of Roseville that is part of our home. They also cannot do it alone. Our prayers for them are needed too. I cannot do what they are doing.
Dear God, make them an instrument of God vision for us. I am thankful, God, that you have put them in our midst to allow Your vision to become our mission. Hold them and us in Your hands and keep them steadfast. We know our world is about to turn. Amen.
