Jesus takes Peter, James, and John up a mountain, and suddenly, everything changes. His face shines like the sun, his clothes gleam, and he stands with Moses and Elijah. Peter wants to stay in this moment of glory, but Jesus leads them back down, where suffering and struggle still await. The transfiguration is a glimpse of God’s ultimate reality—one that will reshape everything, even the way of the cross.
Author & Theologian Barbara Brown Taylor writes, “New life starts in the dark. Whether it is a seed in the ground, a baby in the womb, or Jesus in the tomb, it starts in the dark.” Transformation is rarely immediate; it often begins in uncertainty, in tension between what is and what will be. The disciples don’t fully understand what they’ve seen, but Jesus calls them forward anyway.
Where is God calling you to embrace transformation? What part of your story needs to be rewritten by the light of God’s glory? Even when we don’t have all the answers, Jesus walks with us, bringing new life where we least expect it.
May you find yourself in God’s story today. -Pastor Peter
Let’s pray… God of transformation, open our eyes to your presence. Rewrite our hesitation into courage, our darkness into light, and our fears into faith. Amen.
