Isaiah’s encounter with God is one of awe, transformation, and calling. Overwhelmed by God’s holiness, Isaiah at first feels unworthy. Yet God responds not with condemnation, but with generosity. A burning coal touches Isaiah’s lips, removing his guilt and preparing him for a life of service. When God asks, “Whom shall I send?” Isaiah responds boldly, “Here I am; send me!”
Isaiah’s call reminds us that God’s generosity doesn’t end with grace—it equips us for action. As the author & educator, Parker Palmer, writes, “Vocation does not come from willfulness. It comes from listening. I must listen to my life and try to understand what it is truly about.” Isaiah listened, and God’s vision transformed his sense of purpose.
We, too, are called to listen and respond. Our unique gifts, passions, and circumstances aren’t accidents; they’re part of God’s invitation to participate in God’s vision for the world. Whether through our vocations, relationships, or acts of service, we have countless opportunities to live generously, trusting that God’s abundance will sustain us.
This week, reflect on this: How is God calling you to serve? Where can your talents meet the world’s deep needs? Like Isaiah, may we listen to God’s call and respond with courage and faith, trusting in the generosity of the One who calls us.
May God’s peace find you today. -Pastor Peter
Let’s pray… Holy God, open our ears to hear your call and our hearts to respond with boldness. Equip us to live generously in your service. Amen.
