At a special meeting, the Congregation Council accepted the recommendation of the Call Committee to forward the Reverend Elizabeth (Betsy) Hoium as the final candidate for Associate Pastor for Faith Formation.  A special meeting of the congregation will be held at 11 a.m. on Sunday, August 26 to formally extend the call to Pastor Betsy. (Parking will be available in the lot, but on rock instead of pavement. As you are able, please use the temporary parking in the side lot. The temporary parking entrance is indicated by a huge white sign.)

Jennifer Duncan, Call Committee Chair, presented a detailed description to the Council of the process that the committee had engaged in its deliberation and discernment.  Jennifer also detailed how the Synod had provided us with four potential candidates, each with impressive gifts for ministry and making the committee’s discernment all the more challenging.  Finally, the committee’s process centered on how each candidate had demonstrated experience in the specifically defined performance areas identified in the previously developed Ministry Site Profile.  Here is the summary statement from the Committee’s report to the Council:

“We found [Pastor Betsy] to be strongly equipped on all essential duties, she has strong Biblical knowledge, she’s demonstrated creative success and experience, has strong recruiting and equipping skills with volunteers, is thoughtful and passionate in the area of children and family ministry, has a strong desire to work collaboratively, has great tenacity, and is a learner and educator.”

Pastor Betsy most recently served as the Pastor of Living Waters Lutheran in Lino Lakes, MN, concluding her call there at the end of July.  She is a Twin Cities native and after an earlier career as staff attorney and assistant director for the Metropolitan Airport Commission, Betsy studied for her Master of Divinity at Luther Seminary (she was a classmate of Pastor Peter’s).  From 2012-2016 she served as Associate Pastor for Faith Formation at Peace Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls, SD and is now happy to be back in her home in south Minneapolis.

Please make plans to attend the special meeting and congregational vote at 11 a.m., on Sunday, August 26.  Should the Spirit so lead, Pastor Betsy is prepared to formally begin her call with us on October 1 but may also make some appearances in our midst during the month of September.
