I love Advent and Christmas. People are usually thinking about others, the seasonal music is awesome, the decorations are beautiful and it’s a time to make sure you get together with friends and families (whether in person, thru cards, or both). What else is there? I feel like I’m missing something. Oh yeah, I almost forgot the most important part of Christmas: Jesus comes into the world!
Ever notice how easy it is to forget what Christmas is all about? Is your schedule so packed with activities that there isn’t room for Jesus? No room at the inn, at birth, and no room in people’s lives, now. Is this a sad reality in your life at times? What are some things you can do to make sure Christ is the most important part of this year’s Christmas? How can we celebrate the coming of Christ with so much darkness in the world? How do we help make sure those hurting can still have a wonderful Christmas? I’m not sure of all the answers, but I know that we all need to try to keep Christ the central point of Christmas!
I know I’ve used my song “Living Christmas Card” before, but I find it helpful in keeping me Christ-centered, so I share it once again with you.
Living Christmas Card
Refrain: Isn’t it nice to get Christmas cards and letters in the mail? Isn’t it nice that this season we all take the time to care? It’d be so nice if the Christmas spirit lasted all year long, so take the time and live your life like you’re a living Christmas card.
1) How hard can it be to let God’s light shine? How hard can it be to love, for God sent his Son, our freedoms been won, oh why is it then so hard to love? (Refrain)
2) How hard can it be to help those in need? How hard can it be to give, for God sent his Son, our freedoms been won, oh why is it then so hard to give? (Refrain)
3) How hard can it be to live as a friend? How hard can it be to care, for God sent his Son, our freedoms been won, oh why is it then so hard to care? (Refrain)
4) How hard can it be to follow Christ’s lead? How hard can it be to serve, for God sent his son, our freedoms been won, oh why is it then so hard to serve? (Refrain)
My prayer, for all of us, is that we make the time to keep Christ centered in our lives, and that we keep Christmas in our hearts all year long. What a life I could lead. What a church we could be. What a world we could live in. How hard can it be to love, give, care and serve?
Merry Christmas, Milty
