This month’s theme is about change. I know change can be challenging for many people, but I also think it provides amazing opportunities. God is always with us throughout change and that provides wonderful comfort in knowing that our God is walking alongside of us.
As you may already know or have heard, I am resigning from my position of almost ten years as Director of Children’s Ministry. It was through careful discernment, lots of prayer, conversation with my husband, and many tears that I felt God was calling me to move in a different direction. I have been learning that sometimes one needs to say, “no” to something to say “yes” to other things. Those other things are my education and family right now. Having started seminary in September, I am finding that I love learning! I’m excited about the opportunities that lie ahead for me in my education and where God is calling me to explore.
What does this change mean for Children’s & Family Ministry? Lots of opportunities! I have been in conversation with the Children’s Ministry Committee and I truly believe that there are many great ideas for the future. I also believe that God will continue to guide those ideas and be part of the opportunities to come. I have had the chance to share my thoughts on what’s working and what’s not, what the kids and families have been excited about, and where there might be areas to partner with other organizations. The leaders of Children’s & Family Ministry have been such an incredible blessing to me in my work here and I know they will continue to shine in the upcoming year.
As I said, “change can be challenging” and for me, I find the challenge is in saying, “see you later”. My Grandmother always told me there are no “goodbyes,” but “see you later.” It has been an amazing time for both my family and I to be part of this community of faith. We have met wonderful people, shared lovely meals and conversation, served alongside dedicated and loving people, shared laughter and tears, and so much more. For that we give God thanks and high fives for calling us into ministry here. Thank you, Prince of Peace for your kindness, love, support, and encouragement over the years! God loves you and so do we!
May you have a blessed Christmas and Happy New Year!
