Peace is…

As I was thinking about peace for Sunday’s worship, I was having a hard time coming up with one, single definition of peace. Then I remembered the fabulous children’s book, “The Peace Book,” by Todd Parr. I love Todd Parr’s books. His bright, colorful style always makes me smile. Each page begins with, “peace is…” and then shares an example of what peace can look or feel like.

Repentance and Justice

On June 17, 2015, Clementa C. Pinckney, Cynthia Marie Graham Hurd, Susie Jackson, Ethel Lee Lance, DePayne Middleton-Doctor, Tywanza Sanders, Daniel Lee Simmons, Sharonda Coleman-Singleton, and Myra Thompson were murdered by a self-professed white supremacist while they were gathered for Bible study and prayer at the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church (often referred to as Mother Emanuel) in Charleston, South Carolina.

Dear friends in Christ, as we remember and mark this day, I invite you to read these words from the ELCA: “Our relationship to the shooter, as well as two of the slain, reminds us of both our complicity and our calling.

Navigate with Love

I cut this little comic strip out of the newspaper a few months ago and added it to “my pile.” “My pile” consists of the mail, saved articles, and scribbled notes on scrap paper that seem to accumulate throughout the week. All these things seem important in the moment but mostly they get recycled, except for this comic. I keep it because it makes me laugh.

I’m Lost

My young adult was out running errands, but since she spent almost every car ride of her life with her head in a book, Roseville looks like a brand new city from the driver’s seat.
