After a second long day of travel, we made it to Newland, NC! We stopped for lunch and then went for a quick hike to Little Elk Falls before continuing up the mountain to Lutherock. After camp dinner, we met with Jonathon from LDR Carolinas to go through orientation and discuss the plan for the week. Our theme for the week is Daily Bread. Centered on the 4th petition of the Lord’s Prayer, “Give us this day our daily bread”. In the small catechism, Martin Luther explains “Daily Bread includes everything that has to do with the support and needs of the body, such as food, drink, clothing, shoes, house, home, land, animals, money, goods, a devout husband or wife, devout children, devout workers, devout and faithful rulers, good government, good weather, peace, health, self-control, good reputation, good friends, faithful neighbors, and the like.” What does this mean? “God certainly gives daily bread to everyone without our prayers, even to all evil people, but we pray in this petition that God would lead us to realize this and to receive our daily bread with thanksgiving”. As we go through the work this week, we will explore what this means as we encounter the people here in North Carolina and take this messaging home with us. We have already been blessed with so many opportunities to dive into deep conversation of how God is working here and in our lives, and we are excited to be present in this work this week.
We will continue to update this page as we are able. Thank you, Prince of Peace, for your ongoing generosity that made this trip possible. We are so grateful to have this time to grow with one another.
