Highlights from the Regular Monthly Meeting of the Congregation Council, Tuesday, May 14, 6pm
Semi-Annual Meeting Date & Time
The Council established the meeting time for the next semi-annual meeting of the congregation for Sunday, June 30, 2024 at 10:45am. Note, the meeting follows our regular worship summer service, scheduled for 9:30am.
New CYF Role Expanded to Full-Time with Related Responsibilities
The council approved a motion made by the Personnel Committee to approve expanded responsibilities to create a full-time CYF & support position titled Minister for Family, Fun, Faith Formation, and Community Engagement. The Committee is pleased to have interviewed two strong candidates for the expanded position and are hopeful to have a new staff person in place before September. The approved position description is available here:
Treasurer’s Report
Congregation Treasurer Arjun Sethi reported we are ahead of budget projections for the current fiscal year (ending 6/30/24), both due to increased giving and reduced maintenance and snow removal costs due to the mild winter. The council also heard a presentation from the Finance Committee regarding the use of funds from the Rose Diestler Fund for a new “Building the Church” project. The council approved a motion to bring the proposal to the congregation at the June 30th semi-annual meeting. The congregation will have the chance to review the proposed 2024-25 budget and the proposed use of funds from the Diestler estate gift prior to the semi-annual meeting.
Property Management Team Authorized
The council then heard a motion from staff to form a “Property Management Team” which would streamline maintenance of the church facility and add efficiency for addressing future facility needs (i.e. parking lot repairs). This team would be responsible for, identifying project managers, finding and assessing contractors for projects and would have the authority to allocate dedicated funding for projects. This motion was approved.
Reports from Youth and Synod Assembly Delegates
Finally, the council heard updates from the youth team and our members who went to the SPAS Synod Assembly. Fundraising is going well for the New Orleans Youth Gathering. There will be one more fundraiser on June 9th which will be a talent show beginning at noon. This will raise funds both for the Youth Gathering and for Camp Wapo scholarships for the coming summer. The Synod Assembly also seemed to be very successful and we are grateful to Rick Rothausen, Erika Wold, and Pastor Peter for representing Prince of Peace at the gathering.
This council update was compiled by Andrew Hannesh, Congregation Vice-President.
