When I hear the word wrestle, I think of the sport of wrestling. Webster’s definition for a wrestling match is when the opponents struggle hand to hand to throw each other to the ground without striking blows. Another definition in the dictionary is: a struggle or fight with; a contest.
Many times during my life I struggled with a decision, sometimes several times a day. However, as I think of the major times I have struggled to make a decision the following would be a few of the most important ones:
- Which career path to pursue – social work, nursing or teaching.
- Or after a good teaching job in Duluth, should I follow my Navy man out to California?
- Or more recently at the almost age of 90 should I get a new knee?
I am sure each of you have wrestled with many decisions during your life:
- What college or trade school should I choose? Or should I not go to either?
- Is this for sure the person I want to marry and spend my life with?
- How is the best way to spend my money?
- Who should I vote for?
- Which church should I join? Or maybe, should I become a church member?
- What should I prepare for supper?
- Should I get a pet?
- Where do I want to live?
- Can I identify my gifts and use them in the best way possible?
- Should I buy a home or rent?
Some struggles are more difficult than others:
- How can my Christian faith guide me in determining how we can protect our Planet Earth from pollution, disruption of ecosystems, and depletion of natural resources?
- Sometimes I might doubt the presence of God and Christ’s resurrection.
- How can I live out my Christian life in service to others?
- There are so many needs. What should I pray for today?
Dear Creator God, we are grateful for the judgment part of our minds to help us make good decisions. We are thankful for educators and mentors to guide us.
