As I shared yesterday, Jesus called the twelve not because they were perfect, powerful, or privileged, but because they were willing to follow. In Luke 6, we see how Jesus redefines belonging—not by status, but by purpose. As followers of Jesus today, we are also chosen, not for our own sake, but to participate in God’s mission of love and justice.

Here are five ways we can respond to God’s call:

  1. Prioritize Compassion Over Rules – Jesus healed on the Sabbath, showing that love always takes precedence over rigid traditions. How can we let compassion guide our choices?
  2. Embrace Community Over Individualism – The disciples were not called alone; they were formed into a community. How are we creating spaces where all belong?
  3. Speak Boldly for Justice – Jesus’ ministry confronted religious and political power that harmed the vulnerable. How can we challenge injustice in our own time?
  4. Choose Service Over Status – The disciples were not given positions of power but roles of service. Where is God calling you to serve with humility?
  5. Trust God’s Abundance – The disciples left behind security to follow Jesus. How can we live with faith, trusting that God provides what we truly need?

We are chosen—not for comfort, but for purpose. As best we can, let’s follow where Jesus leads.

May you find yourself in God’s story today. -Pastor Peter

Let’s pray… God of calling, shape us into a people of love, justice, and service. Give us courage to follow Jesus and live into your purpose. Amen.
