“The call of God is not only a call to be something; it is a call to do something in this world.” – attributed to Marcus Borg

At the start of Jesus’ ministry, the story of God takes a profound turn. In Luke’s Gospel, we see how God’s call echoes through the wilderness, into the lives of fishermen, and among ordinary people longing for hope. John the Baptist calls for repentance, Simon Peter leaves his nets, and Jesus redefines community by gathering a diverse group of followers. Each moment invites participation in God’s unfolding story—a story of transformation, purpose, and grace.

Marcus Borg reminds us that God’s call isn’t just about who we are but also about what we do. As we prepare to begin this new worship series, “Called Into the Story,” we’re invited to reflect on how God calls us—individually and as a community—into lives of meaning and service. What does it mean for you to step deeper into God’s story? Are there places in your life where you sense the Spirit nudging you toward something new?

As we begin this journey together, may we open our hearts to hear God’s voice, our hands to serve, and our lives to reflect the grace we’ve received.

May you find yourself in God’s story today. -Pastor Peter

Let’s pray… God of calling, help us to hear your voice, follow your lead, and live as participants in your story of love and transformation. Amen.
