As part of our Love the World sphere, Prince of Peace is living out its call to care for our neighbors in need through the Sacred Settlement. This ministry embodies a full-community approach to supporting those experiencing chronic homelessness, offering stability, dignity, and hope through intentional relationships and shared resources. In 2024, the Sacred Settlement experienced remarkable growth, with three key developments that continue to transform lives.
First, the Sacred Settlement expanded to include a third home, marking a significant milestone in our ministry. The Beary Family, our dedicated Intentional Neighbors, transitioned into a slightly larger home within the settlement, creating space for Angelina, our newest neighbor, to join the community. Alongside this growth, we’ve enhanced the settlement with new infrastructure, including a chicken coop housing ten egg-laying chickens, a flourishing garden with raised beds, and safe, accessible sidewalks. These additions not only improve the daily lives of our neighbors but also foster a sense of shared purpose and pride in this unique community.
Second, we continue to expand the Settlement Care Team, drawing more supportive friends from both within Prince of Peace and the broader community. These volunteers are essential to the success of the Sacred Settlement, offering friendship, practical guidance, and emotional support to our neighbors as they navigate the challenges of life in community. Their willingness to serve and walk alongside our neighbors embodies the love and compassion of Christ, creating a network of care that truly transforms lives.
Finally, our monthly Community Dinners have become a cornerstone of the Sacred Settlement’s life together. These old-fashioned potlucks are not just about sharing meals—they are celebrations of connection, belonging, and the abundant grace of God. Every month, neighbors, care team members, and community friends come together around the table, experiencing a glimpse of the kingdom that God has imagined for us. These dinners remind us of the power of shared stories and shared lives, strengthening the bonds that make the Sacred Settlement a place of healing and renewal.
Through these efforts, Sacred Settlement Prince of Peace continues to be a vibrant expression of God’s love for the world. Together, we’re building a community where dignity and grace flourish, offering hope to all who seek a place to belong.
