“In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.” These familiar words from Genesis remind us that God’s story begins with creation—a story marked by possibility, order, and life. Yesterday, in Luke 3:1-22, we encountered another beginning. John the Baptist appears in the wilderness, proclaiming a baptism of repentance and forgiveness of sins. His words challenge us to prepare for a new work of God and to align our lives with God’s purposes.
John’s call to repentance isn’t merely about feeling sorry for past mistakes. Instead, it’s an invitation to turn toward God and embrace a fresh start. Through baptism, we are reminded that God is always making all things new. Jesus himself steps into the waters, marking the beginning of his public ministry. As the heavens open and the Spirit descends, we hear the voice of God declare, “You are my Son, the Beloved; with you, I am well pleased.” This moment affirms Jesus’ identity and purpose, setting the stage for the transformative work to come.
As we reflect on this story, we’re invited to ask: What new beginnings is God calling me to embrace? Are there places in my life where I need to turn back to God, making room for transformation and growth?
With Jesus, every day is an opportunity for renewal. Let’s step into this new beginning with faith, trusting that the God who created us calls us beloved.
May you find yourself in God’s story today. -Pastor Peter
Let’s pray… God of new beginnings, open our hearts to your Spirit, guide our steps in your ways, and remind us that we are your beloved. Amen.
