I write not knowing the outcomes of yesterday’s elections that will be known or perhaps still unknown by the time you are reading this. On this day after election day, our spirits may likely be unsettled. We face the uncertainty of outcomes that shape our future and the lives of those we love. In times like these, it’s easy to be swept up in the urgency of results and the fears of “what if.” But there is a more important truth that we can already know.
God is still God. Scripture reminds us: “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear” (Psalm 46:1-2a). This steadfast assurance anchors us, grounding our anxious minds and weary spirits.
Walter Brueggemann once wrote, “God’s fidelity is the one certainty in our lives that stands firm when everything else seems uncertain.” Brueggemann’s words invite us to shift our focus from the changeable to the unchangeable. God’s promises—to love us, to be with us, to guide us—remain true regardless of who sits in positions of power.
Today, take time to breathe deeply, knowing that God’s presence surrounds us all. Pray for the wisdom to discern what you can contribute to healing and justice in our community, and for the grace to let go of the things beyond your control. Hold on to hope that God’s light will lead us through any turbulence. Remember, God has called us to a love that surpasses fear, to a peace that overcomes division, and to a future held secure in divine hands.
May God’s peace find you today. -Pastor Peter
Let’s pray… Loving God, steady our hearts amid any remaining uncertainty. Fill us with courage, hope, and peace. Guide us to be instruments of your love and justice. Amen.
