As our story continues this Sunday, we’ll encounter a moment of divine reassurance. Sarah & Abraham, childless and uncertain, are promised a future more abundant than the stars in the sky. This promise is not just about Sarah & Abraham; it is about a story that unfolds through generations. God’s promise extends beyond these particular ancient circumstances but speaks to the grand, cosmic narrative in which we are all participants.
As inheritors of this promise, we are woven into this divine story. Just as God addressed Abraham’s particular doubts and fears, God speaks to us in the uniqueness of our experiences. Whether we feel like we are in a season of uncertainty, like Sarah & Abraham, or standing on the threshold of new possibilities, God’s word comes to each of us with a personal invitation.
As Henri Nouwen reminds us, “Our lives are not problems to be solved but journeys to be taken with Jesus as our friend and finest guide.” God’s promises meet us in the journey, not just at the destination. They invite us to trust, even when we cannot yet see the outcome.
Our doubts, hopes, longings, and even our failures are part of the journey of faith. God’s covenant with Sarah & Abraham is a reminder that we are not forgotten in the vastness of creation; we are known and loved in all our particularity. In this, we find our place in God’s ongoing story—a story still unfolding through us.
May God’s peace find you today. -Pastor Peter
Let us pray… God of promise, guide us in our journeys of faith. Help us trust your plans, even in uncertainty, and embrace our place in your unfolding story. Amen.
