“Not everything that is faced can be changed, but nothing can be changed until it is faced.” – James Baldwin, author & civil rights activist.

This wisdom speaks to the heart of faith—trusting God even when the outcome remains unclear. Sarah & Abraham’s story, which we encountered in worship yesterday, reminds us that faith is not about having all the answers or seeing immediate results. Instead, it’s about staying committed to God’s vision, even when the path ahead is murky.

Abraham questioned God’s promise because, from his perspective, nothing was changing. He was still childless, still waiting, and unsure of how the future would unfold. Yet, instead of walking away, he brought his doubts to God, and in doing so, deepened his relationship with the divine. His faith wasn’t perfect, but it was honest.

Like Sarah & Abraham, we face seasons of uncertainty where the promises of God feel distant. In these moments, Baldwin’s words remind us that facing the unknown with courage and faith is itself a transformative act. We may not be able to change our circumstances instantly, but our commitment to walk with God through uncertainty can change us.

The life of faith calls us to trust in the process, to stay engaged with God, and to keep believing in God’s promises, even when the outcome is beyond our sight. In facing the unknown with God, we become part of the unfolding story of hope and transformation.

May God’s peace find you today. -Pastor Peter

Let’s pray… God of the unknown, give us courage to trust you, even in uncertainty. Help us face the future with faith, knowing you are always present. Amen.
