On Friday, we woke up around 6:00 to go do our accompaniment day project. We learned about gender equality and how social systems allow men to maintain power and force women to be submissive. Then we went to the Riverwalk shopping area to get lunch which included Cane’s and Alfredo. After lunch, we went to the convention center to play some GaGa ball. Many games of GaGa ball were played, and some of us went on the inflatable slide and slept in a hammock. After GaGa ball, Enna, Micah and Ben participated in multiple interactive learning experiences where they learned about the struggles of refugees and people dealing with unstable housing. After that we had dinner and then we went to the mass gathering at the Smoothie King center. The theme tonight was “Created to Be Disruptive” and we heard from Lori Fuller on how she struggled with being deaf without support and we also heard from Sally Azar on the Israeli occupation of Palestine and how despite the strict rules she lives under, she still became the first Palestinian woman to be ordained in the Holy Land. After mass gathering, we took a night stroll down Bourbon Street and got the ever so coveted Beignets from Cafe du Monde. After our devotions, we gave each other rather humorous shirts in a secret santa format. After that, we went to bed and that was the end of Friday.
