In the garden of life, each of us is a seed waiting to be planted, nurtured, and grown for the flourishing of God’s world. As we dig into the fertile soil of our existence, we find inspiration in the words of Jesus from Mark’s gospel, where he beckons the little ones to him, declaring, “Let the children come to me; do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God.” (Mark 10:13-14)
Just as a diligent gardener tends to each delicate seedling with care, we are called to cultivate the hearts of the youngest among us, sowing the seeds of faith. The act of raising children in the embrace of God is like to being entrusted with the nurturing of the most precious seeds in the garden of God’s kingdom.
In this holy work, we mirror the role of the Sower in the Parable of the Sower (Matthew 13:3-9). The seeds we plant in our children’s hearts have the potential to take root and flourish, bearing the fruits of love, compassion, and a deep connection with God. Yet, just as some seeds fall on rocky ground or among thorns, our efforts may face challenges. But in persistently watering the soil with the truths of grace and the teachings of Jesus, we become faithful stewards of the heavenly garden.
Raising children in the faith is not merely a duty; it is a sacred vocation. Like the patient Sower, we engage in the intentional act of scattering seeds of love, kindness, and forgiveness. Our words and actions serve as the nutrients that enable these seeds to sprout and reach towards the heavens.
It’s certainly a profound responsibility to be planting seeds for the kingdom. May we approach this divine task with the wisdom and tenderness that characterized Jesus’ interaction with the children. As we nurture the seeds of faith in the soil of young hearts, may we trust they will grow mighty and productive, providing for all in the ever-expanding kingdom of God.

Let us pray… God, you are the Sower, your story is the seed. Help us as we nurture the youngest in our midst to be good soil may they experience the fullness of your vision. Amen.
