“You are not also one of this man’s disciples, are you?”  This was the question asked of Simon Peter.  It is a question that we face too.  It is part of each day for us.  As we live each day we have opportunities and challenges.  How will we answer that question with our words and deeds?  Will we live as one of Jesus’ disciples?

I know that I do not always stand firm in my faith.  I don’t always live what I proclaim.  Does that mean I am defeated and a miserable failure?  There are times that I have failed.  But the story of Peter gives me hope because Jesus knew that Peter would deny him yet after the resurrection Jesus still entrusted him with a mission.  Jesus recognizes our weakness but still calls us to new strength with opportunities to love and serve God this day.

Prayer: Gracious God, we do not always have words and deeds that are consistent with our claim to be your disciples.  Forgive us.  Thank you for still offering opportunities to love and serve you each day.  Amen.
