Women on Wednesday
WOW (Women On Wednesday) begins Wednesday, October 16; 10:30am!
Please join us as we begin a new year of Women on Wednesday! This is a group for women of all ages who are interested in making new friends, deepening relationships, and growing spiritually through small-group conversations about faith and life. Each group is made up of 5-7 women, and conversations stem from a book that everyone reads over the course of 8 months (October-May). We meet the 3rd Wednesday of the month, enjoying coffee and treats from 10:30-11:00 before breaking into our small groups. Below are the descriptions of the books for this year:
The Mothers and Daughters of the Bible Speak by Shannon Bream. Are you drawn to biographies? Do you like drama? Each chapter of this book is a biography of one of the famous women in the Bible, filled with drama and color. Women having to obtain their worth and value is nothing new. We’ll discuss how these women led the way and teach us lessons we can use today. Led by Ruth Hagander.
Grateful: Giving Thanks to God in All Things by Lifeway Women. Fostering a heart of gratitude brings blessings and joy to us and to those around us. It turns our eyes off of ourselves and helps us cherish and appreciate our time and relationships in a new way. We will look for examples of gratitude and how we can express those feelings to God, even when life is hard. We’ll see that developing a thankful heart begins with acknowledging how the One who owes us nothing gives us everything. Led by Mary Jo Trapp.
Abide: A Study of 1, 2, & 3 John by Jen Wilkin. We’ll have the honor to sit together at John’s feet, a disciple and eye witness of Jesus, and learn more about what it means to Abide in Jesus and He in us! We will learn and discuss how to comprehend the scripture (what does it say?), interpret the scripture (what does it mean?) and apply scripture to our lives (how should it change us?) No matter what uncertainty we have in this world, God is faithful and He will remain in us as we remain in Him. Mischa Beary, leader.
Holy Envy: Finding God in the Faith of Others by Barbara Brown Taylor. What questions, worries, and concerns arise when we encounter the beliefs and practices of those whose faith is different than ours? In this book, Episcopal priest, professor of religion, and bestselling author Barbara Brown Taylor explores what is opened and what is revealed when we accept the invitation to investigate all the wonders before us. Through reading and discussing Holy Envy, we’ll discover the spiritual riches God can teach us from the faith of others. Led by Carol Swanson and Debbie Jorgens.
