December 11 – Loneliness, Light & Meaning

December can be a complex month—full of both joy and sorrow. For many, holidays bring up deep emotions related to grief, belonging, and hope.

  1. How do you navigate feelings of loneliness or longing during the holidays, and what helps you feel connected?
  2. What traditions or new rituals have you created (or hope to create) to honor loved ones or cope with holiday grief?
  3. How do you find light—literally or metaphorically—during the darker, colder days of winter?
  4. In this season of reflection and transition, what gives your life meaning, and how do you nurture that sense of purpose?

January 8 – New Beginnings & Letting Go

January invites us to reflect on fresh starts, the passing of time, and the things—both joyful and painful—we carry with us. It’s a month for honoring what we’ve lived through and deciding what we want to welcome into our lives moving forward.

  1. What is something from the past year you are ready to release, and how might letting go create room for something new?
  2. How have your ideas about “new beginnings” changed as you’ve grown older?
  3. What traditions or practices help you feel grounded as you enter a new year?
  4. In what ways can you show yourself compassion as you navigate change, uncertainty, or personal goals?

February 12 – Love, Loss & Lifelong Bonds

February often brings attention to love in its many forms—romantic, familial, and the deep friendships that sustain us. It’s also a time when many reflect on partners lost, relationships changed, and the enduring bonds that shape our identities.

  1. How have your definitions of love and partnership evolved over the years?
  2. What relationships—past or present—have had the greatest impact on who you are today?
  3. How do you nurture connection and intimacy as you age, whether through romance, friendship, or community?
  4. How do you honor loved ones who have passed while allowing yourself to keep growing and forming new bonds?

March 12 – Navigating Change & Life Transitions

March often symbolizes movement with winter shifting into spring, routines adjusting, and life transitioning in subtle or significant ways. As we age, transitions can feel more layered, bringing both challenges and unexpected opportunities for growth.

  1. What major life transition has had the biggest impact on you, and what helped you navigate it?
  2. How do you cope with changes that you didn’t choose versus those you did?
  3. Which transitions in later life (retirement, health changes, shifting roles, loss, new responsibilities) have surprised you the most?
  4. What strengths or insights have you discovered about yourself through periods of change?

April 9 – Connection, Community & Belonging

April brings a sense of openness as the world begins to brighten, making it a good time to reflect on the connections that sustain us. Community—whether found through friendships, family, neighborhoods, or shared interests—plays a powerful role in our emotional well-being and sense of belonging.

  1. What does “community” mean to you, and how has that meaning changed over time?
  2. Who are the people or groups that make you feel most connected, supported, or understood?
  3. How do you maintain meaningful relationships, especially when life circumstances or health change?
  4. What steps could you take—big or small—to strengthen or expand your sense of belonging?

May 14 – Celebrating Legacy & Honoring Life Stories

May invites us to celebrate the stories, traditions, and legacies that shape families and communities. It’s a meaningful time to reflect on the impact we’ve made and the memories we hope to leave behind.

  1. What aspects of your life story feel most important to preserve or share with others?
  2. How do you hope to be remembered by the people closest to you?
  3. Which traditions or values do you feel proud to have passed down—or hope to pass down?
  4. How do you continue to create meaning and purpose in this chapter of life?

Seniors Supporting Seniors, a group for older adults (and anyone who considers themselves a senior!), meets on the 2nd Thursday of each month, year round, from 1:00 – 2:30pm for conversations on a variety of topics related to growing older.
