A Light for All the Ages

The stories of Simeon and Anna that we heard yesterday remind us that God’s work often shines brightest through those who are overlooked. Simeon’s faithful waiting and Anna’s tireless devotion show that age is no barrier to bearing witness to God’s promises. These elders didn’t perform extraordinary acts; they simply showed up, paid attention, and proclaimed the truth when they saw it. Their stories remind us that God calls us to participate in the extraordinary story of salvation at every stage of life.

Henri Nouwen once wrote, “Waiting is a period of learning. The longer we wait, the more we hear about him for whom we are waiting.” Simeon and Anna embody this truth. Their waiting was active, shaped by prayer, worship, and trust in God’s promises. When the Christ child finally appeared, their words reflected a lifetime of faith.

In a world often obsessed with youth and speed, their example challenges us to see the value of wisdom, patience, and faithful presence. Elders, your witness is essential. Whether mentoring, praying, or simply sharing your story, you reflect the light of Christ to those around you. Like Simeon and Anna, you remind us that God’s promises unfold in surprising and ordinary ways, through people of all ages.

May God’s peace find you today. -Pastor Peter

Let’s pray… God of all generations, use us to proclaim your light in the world. May our lives bear witness to your promises, now and always. Amen.
