The leadership of Sacred Settlement Prince of Peace gathered on Tuesday, Sept. 17 in the Studio Meeting Room.  Here are a few highlights from the meeting:

Seeking More Friends

“Supportive Friends” are one of the five key elements of our full-community model for serving the chronically homeless in our midst.  Gabrielle Clowdus, Settled’s Founder, encourages us to expand and deepen our vision for how to surround the neighbors of our settlement with a larger collection of Supportive Friends.  Just like good neighbors, we all need supportive friends in our lives.  These are the people we share our lives with, are ok being vulnerable with, help to hold us accountable when we could use extra encouragement, etc.  Our formally homeless residents could really use more people around them who would meet this definition.  We will make this the focus of our October Community Dinner and invite those gathered to do some more dreaming on this topic.  Connect with Alyssa, if you’d like to know more about becoming a Supportive Friend.

Finding a Place for Laundry

Our Property Management Team is doing the hard work of determining how and where laundry facilities could be added to our facility.  They are also reaching out to contractors to explore some creative solutions and look forward to advancing a proposal for renovations in the near future.

Getting Ready for Winter

There is still hope that we might be able to have our three homes “skirted” before the cold weather sets in.  (Skirting is visible at the base of the Mosaic home pictured here.) Brandon Overholt, Settled’s Building Contractor, will be providing us with plans for how to simply accomplish this work.  We are searching for a project leader and team of volunteers that would be able to help us accomplish this task.  Again, if you are interested in supporting this effort, please connect with Alyssa.

The Chicken Coop is also getting prepared for the installation of a heat lamp so that our Egg-Laying Team is kept cozy all winter long.

Discerning the Future

The Settlement Stewardship Team is going to review the recently revised organizational recommendations developed by Settled and offered to congregations just beginning the discernment process of developing a Sacred Settlement.  We intend to use this process to determine if and when Prince of Peace might enter a new round of discernment on future expansion of our Sacred Settlement.

What is the Settlement Stewardship Team (SST)?

The SST provides the formal programmatic, policy, and financial oversight of our Sacred Settlement, as we continue using the Full Community model developed by our partners with Settled to address chronic homelessness in Roseville.  The relationship between Prince of Peace and Settled is defined in a “Memorandum of Understanding” (MOU) that serves as the core expression of our covenant to each other.  It’s the SST that has been charged with living out the principles outlined in the MOU.

Who serves on the SST?

Formally, Prince of Peace has three representatives serving on the SST, alongside two representatives from Settled.

Members appointed by the Prince of Peace Congregation Council: Peter Christ, Pastor; Alyssa Herrig, Director of Community Engagement; Michael Stetzler, Past-President.

Representing Settled: Gabrielle Clowdus, Founder & Visionary; Fred Ogimachi, Advisory Board Member for Operations.

Additionally, Deb Cordes, Congregation President, and Kristin Bloxham, Office Administrator, function as Ex-Officio members to the SST.
