Sacred Settlement Update
Prince of Peace has dropped the “interim” designation from our settlement. At a special meeting on Sunday, October 1, and after months of dedicated work by our Campus Planning Task Force, the congregation overwhelmingly supported making a long-term commitment to creating a home for the formerly homeless on our campus by employing the full-community model of tiny homes championed by our partners at Settled. Prince of Peace also voted to explore additional partnerships to develop other forms of housing and related services on our campus to suit an even broader spectrum of our neighbors in need. The Campus Planning Task Force will be compiling a comprehensive strategic plan by the end of the year.
Wow, this is so exciting!
We remain so grateful for your continuing support and we’re eager to keep you updated on next steps. Our leadership teams are already making plans to add a third tiny home to our campus, creating a home for another chronically homeless person (or couple) with a community of support to surround them. Our partners at Settled. have been gifted a slightly larger home that we would love to bring on site and prepare for our intentional neighbors, the Beary Family, to move into its roomier quarters. We’ll then be able to rehab the Beary’s current home to welcome a new neighbor(s) into our growing sacred settlement.
The leadership teams are also busy preparing for the process to identify our next resident(s) and formalizing the operational details for our now permanent tiny home community. The City of Roseville has indicated that, assuming we meet the various standards stipulated in the new law, our community may officially expand as soon as January 1, once the legislation takes effect. We’ve got some work to do but we’re as excited as ever to get things rolling.
Community Dinner & Celebration
Sunday, October 15, 5:30-7pm
Join us for the next monthly community meal which will be additionally celebratory in light of this big news. Together, we’ll sit down to share in a meal and conversation. Then we’ll have a little time for storytelling and the latest settlement updates. We’ll provide a main course, coffee, and lemonade. If you want to bring a side dish or dessert to share – great. More importantly, just come. There’s always plenty.
