Summer is here. Things are heating up!
Quite literally and figuratively.
The summer heat and smoky air have encouraged us to rethink how the homes in our Interim Sacred Settlement are performing. Now that the homes are firmly anchored, and with advice from the team at Settled, we’re installing some “mini-splits” to upgrade both the cooling and heating functionality. We’re grateful for the resilience and patience of our residents.
The State of MN has now adopted the proposed legislation to allow and regulate Sacred Settlements. Based on the new legislation, the City of Roseville has agreed to consider an Interim-Use permit to allow our Interim Settlement in the short-term and until the new law goes into effect on January 1, 2024.
Our application for the Interim-Use permit will be considered by the Roseville Planning Commission on Wednesday, July 5. The meeting happens in the council chambers, beginning at 6:30pm. As with past meetings, we’re eager to have a strong showing of support. Would you join our team at the meeting and put your support on display for the Commission to see and hear?
Once the Planning Commission makes its recommendation, the City Council will still need to act by approving the permit. This is scheduled to take place on Monday, July 24, beginning at 6pm. Here again, it will be vital to have a strong show of support and your presence would be so helpful to us.
In the meantime, our Campus Planning Task Force has begun the process of discerning how a permanent Sacred Settlement might become a component of our overall ministry landscape. This process includes imagining the right size of the community, the location of the homes, and the additional infrastructure needs, both inside Prince of Peace and on our property. The Task Force is also considering how a permanent Sacred Settlement would integrate alongside a number of other exciting initiatives, each designed to help us further live into God’s vision for this church.
