Worship Series for June 12 – July 3
Summer is a time for gathering and eating – picnics, grilling, roasting marshmallows, dining on an outdoor patio. We ask and give thanks to God for the food that nourishes us and for providing all our basic needs when we pray, “Give us today our daily bread.” In the coming weeks, we’ll explore food stories in scripture and how God’s work in us and in the world brings life in new ways every day.
Sunday, June 15 – Wilderness Complaints & Heaven Sent Salvation
Exodus 16:11-18, 31-35
Sometimes, we just can’t find anything we like on the menu. We can trust that God will provide but are we prepared to receive what’s being offered?
Sunday, June 19 – Is there Enough?
1 Kings 17:8-16
We live in a world where food is plentiful and yet some go hungry. Poverty, weather conditions, and supply chain issues contribute to hunger insecurity. We find hope in the story of Elijah and the widow who shares her last bits of bread.
Sunday, June 26 – Wisdom & Skill – One Vegetarian’s Revolt
Daniel 1
With God, easing hunger and quenching thirst in unexpected ways might also lead to unexpected insight and a whole new future.
Sunday, July 3 – The Myth of Scarcity: Jesus Feeds 5000
John 6:1-13
Are you a glass half empty or a glass half full person? The same situation can be seen through a lens of scarcity or a lens of abundance. Jesus demonstrates this through the miracle of feeding more than 5000 with 5 loaves and two fish.
