Worship Musings from Milt

November is a time of remembrance and a time of Thanksgiving. Who are the Saints in your life that you thank and remember? In your own life what do you have to be thankful for? Do you know any people in the armed forces that you need to thank? Do you have family members that died in service? All of these questions are important all year long, but it is in November that days are scheduled on the calendar, so that we take time to remember and give thanks.

The end of the church year is also coming soon, so soon we will be preparing for the coming of Jesus Christ. Many years our preparing for the coming of Christ uses four words such as joy, love, hope and peace. I think that in giving thanks we should think of these four words, too. What Saints in your life brought or bring you joy, love, hope and peace? What in your life brings you joy, love, hope and peace? Who do you know/remember in the armed forces that help/helped joy, love, hope and peace?

I hope all of you can take time this November to remember those that are important in your life, but more importantly, try being beacon of joy, love, hope and peace to your friends, family and the strangers you meet along life’s way. As a person that music is VERY important to, it probably isn’t surprising that “My Life Flows On in Endless Song” is an important hymn for me. It is ELW 763 and I suggest you meditate on the words of this hymn. The refrain is “No storm can shake my inmost calm while to that Rock I’m clinging. Since Christ is Lord of heaven and earth, how can I keep from singing?
